Experimental Typography 2013

In the Fall of 2013 I decided to take a big step into upper division classes. One of the first ones I took was Experimental Typography. I had a lot of fun with this class. This project was just a basic letter study. I was told to experiment placing random letters together to create a pleasant shape to look at.
Above, are some examples of various ideas I played around with. While not all my beginning could be found, I was glad I didn't loose all of them. Above, the bottom right circle was my finished project, I have below the progressive phases of how I got there.

This phase was a combining of a few trial attempts.

Eventually I decided on different font altogether. While I liked the energy created by the loopy J, it wasn't pleasing enough to the eye to justify keeping it. I tried several other type faces and combinations, this on just fit the best.

At this point it was all about figuring out the looks. how to illuminate anything distracting to create a clean, pleasing work of art.

It took hard work to reach this point, over the course of a few weeks. Over all I was really happy with my finished project.
